What is Peer Mentoring?

Peer Mentoring is designed to help first-year students transition into university life and offers help and guidance. Students will be assigned a Mentee Group, with higher-year student ‘Peer Mentors’. Mentors are trained to provide support, organise networking events and tailor sessions to students’ needs in a relaxed and informal environment.

Meet your Peer Mentors

Peer Mentors are second and third-year students from the same course who guide first-year students in small group settings. Mentors assist students in adjusting to university study and life, helping them build confidence and independence.

As a first-year student, you will be assigned a Mentee Group, led by two Peer Mentors, who will meet with you regularly. They will provide advice tailored to you and your needs and will give you plenty of useful insights into the course and university life.

What does a session look like?

Peer Mentors can arrange revision sessions and workshops with external speakers and can direct you to services within The University of Manchester, so you can always find the help you need. Mentors will give you informal advice and suggestions to help you transition to life in higher education and living away from home, such as the best places to go in Manchester etc.

Benefits of Peer Mentoring

Peer Mentoring is beneficial for both Mentors and Mentees, providing an opportunity to improve many key skills, such as confidence, communication, and interpersonal skills, by sharing experiences.
